Studying at LMU requires sufficient competence in German, for which evidence must be provided. Additional language skills are also increasingly important.
LMU Munich and affiliated institutions offer preparation courses that provide the required evidence of competence in German. We also offer German courses related to your field of study, specialist, and foreign language courses. Find out more here:

In the scientific German courses you will practice study-based language skills. You will practice core linguistic elements of scientific communication (for example; summarizing, paraphrasing, citing, arguing), and the main text and discourse types.

Language courses for doctoral and postdoctoral students
International doctoral and postdoctoral students from all disciplines who are either studying or are visiting researchers at LMU may participate in these courses. Both general language courses and scientific German courses are offered.
Evening courses (German for university and everyday life)
The online program "German-Uni Online," developed at LMU, consists of the following modules: Basic German (from A1), Preparation for Study (B1), Study Organization (B1), Study Practice (B2), Exam Preparation TestDaF (B2), and Specialist German (from C1). It can be arranged flexibly with tutorial support or as a pure self-study program, as well as a combination of classroom and online instruction.
